A recent case in the news has highlighted the importance of appointing Debt Recovery and Credit Control companies who work with you, and your clients to help recover debt.
A property investor successfully sued British Gas in February after claiming they had harassed her for payment of bills, when she wasn't even a customer.
She successfully won the case after the firm threatened to disconnect her, and blacklist her credit in a series of automated letter. Despite writing several letters the threats continued.
Simon Hatfield, MD of Stobbs Brown comments on the case 'This is a typical example of a company which collects its debts in-house. Despite its size, and the time the debt had supposedly been outstanding British Gas did not seek external help from professionals.
